Vishal V Kumar

Vishal is a Partner in Messrs JamesMonteiro (Advocates & Solicitors). Starting as a pupil in chambers in the firm, he was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2011 and was subsequently made a partner in 2018. Vishal specialises in the areas of construction, engineering and energy, including contract advisory, project management advisory, risk management advisory, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution and often appears as second chair to Mr. James Monteiro, the firm’s principal. Vishal also acts as counsel for a wide array of start-ups and/or small to medium sized clients looking for quality and specialised representation in arbitration and litigation but without the usual legal fee requirements associated with such disputes.

Vishal is heavily involved in all of the firm’s adjudication work and regularly appears in Court for related enforcement and setting aside applications. He also provides substantial corporate and commercial contract bespoke drafting to clients, including revisions to forms of contract, e.g. PWD, PAM and FIDIC. He is an accredited civil and commercial mediator of the ADR Group, Bristol and is a past Honorary Treasurer of the Society of Construction Law, Malaysia.
